Does Canadian Tire Price Match?

The Canadian Tire price match policy is a very generous price adjustment policy that can help you save money.

In Canada, you likely know of the famous store, Canadian Tire. It’s the place to go if you need household items, sports equipment, tools, or even automotive tires and parts.

With over 500 stores in Canada and a rich history stretching back to 1944, there’s no better place to roam the aisles in search of what you need.

Read on to find out more about how you can price match at Canadian Tire.

What is Price Matching?

Whether you’re at Canadian Tire or another retailer, the concept of price matching is a classic strategy used by retailers around the world to boost sales by promising their customers the best prices, bar none.

By matching or even beating a competitor’s price on an item, a price adjustment policy is also a way of showing loyalty to their long-time clients. Shoppers that are focused on getting the best savings are very familiar with these deals, and often only have to show proof of a competitor’s lower price to get the benefit of the price matching policy. However, there are often some rules and regulations that apply. See below for more on that.

A price match guarantee can be extremely useful, and even helpful to customers getting a refund after the fact. For example, if you were to buy a large-ticket item and then find out that the next week the store significantly lowered the price, you might even be able to return to the store and get some of your money back. They’ll match the price to reflect the difference in what you paid.

While not every retailer can offer this level of price protection, Canadian Tire’s price match guarantee does. It is an excellent way for shoppers to save money on their favorite household goods, and extends up to within 30 days of purchase. Want to know what’s on sale at Canadian Tire this week?

Canadian Tire Price Match Policy

Many of us grew up collecting Canadian Tire’s loyalty program cash called Canadian Tire money, or Canadian Tire cash. Dating back to 1958, their commitment to customer loyalty hasn’t lagged since, even though they recently updated their Canadian Tire money policy in 2018 to reflect the new digital landscape.

Along with Canadian Tire cash, the Canadian Tire price match policy is another way they reward their customers. All Canadian Tire retail stores have the same rules, and there are great ways to find deals – if you know where to look.

How Does the Canadian Tire Price Match Policy Work?

First, you have to find a lower price at a local competitor. A “local competitor” is defined by Canadian Tire as such:

  • Located within 200km of the Canadian Tire at which you are making your purchase
  • Any online retailer that has a website ending in “.ca”
  • Any online retailer selling automotive wheels and tires with websites ending in “.com”
  • The “competitor” can even be another Canadian Tire!

How Do I Price Match?

Once you’re ready to buy, simply show a Canadian Tire store associate a local competitor’s offer with a lower price and ask for a price adjustment. Proof of local competitor’s offer can be in the form of a flyer, or be an offer located on another retailer’s website.

Once the Canadian Tire store associate determines that the retail item is identical (with the same model number), you can enjoy the benefits of the Canadian Tire price match policy. It is as simple as that!

As mentioned above, there is also a price guarantee that extends to 30 days after purchase. If you discover that the price you paid for an item has dropped since you bought it, you can return to the Canadian Tire within 30 days. Show your receipt to an associate to enjoy the price guarantee benefit.

The only exception to this price protection policy is that if your purchase was price-matched from another Canadian Tire location, you only have 14 days to return the item with a receipt to get money back.

Is Price Matching Worth It?

Any time your favourite retailer can match the price of a competitor, or even provide a lower price, it is a good thing. After all, who doesn’t love saving money? However, somewhat surprisingly, studies show that a very small percentage of shoppers actually take advantage of a price matching policy or price adjustment policy.

This may have something to do with convenience. Checking the retail price of an item at multiple retailer websites can be time-consuming, and so many people skip that task in order to save time rather than money.

But don’t let this stop you because reebee makes this part of the process easy and efficient with our search tool. Simply type in what you’re looking for and reebee will show you where the product is sold near you. This provides the perfect opportunity to compare prices at different stores.

Canadian Tire’s price match policy is definitely worth the look a prices.

Are There Any Exceptions to the Canadian Tire Price Match Guarantee?

Yes, there are a few exclusions. Any used, damaged, or refurbished cannot be used in this program. If the Canadian Tire price is the result of a typographical error, the price match policy doesn’t apply either.

In addition, certain special offers and discounts are excluded from the Canadian Tire price match policy. This includes:

  • Any items with wholesale pricing, or sales that are not available to the general public
  • Items with a lower retail price that are only available through a loyalty program
  • Discounts offered for volume purchases in excess of what an average consumer would use
  • Offers requiring the purchase of more than one item (“Buy One, Get One free” sales)
  • Mail-in rebates, scratch and save discounts, gifts with purchase, or prepaid cards
  • Credit or financing programs offered by Local Competitors
  • Prices offered by Local Competitors that are only available when purchased with a proprietary form of payment (e.g., discount when using a Local Competitor’s credit card)
  • Local Competitor’s bankruptcy, closeout, clearance, discontinued or liquidation prices
  • Discounts connected to the sale of gift cards
  • “Spend and Get” promotions, such as “Spend $200, and get a $20 gift card)
  • After-purchase Price Matches during special sales events like Black Friday or Cyber Monday

Other than that, the Canadian Tire price match policy is very generous, and definitely something you should take advantage of when you have the chance.
